Michael, could you remind me? Will the tone of the blocks even out as they dry or is this a permanent error?

According to Jeff, there will probably always be some differences among the blocks and probably some unevenness within them.
As they are now, the blocks vary in color because of the differing exposures when they were packed for shipment and even how long it has been since they were manufactured. The color differences will eventually fade and the blocks will even out as time goes on. Our test walls are testimony to this. There will always be some differences between the blocks, but it will be much more suble than it is now.
